Take the Body Quiz to determine if you’re a mesomorph or endomorph. Some people become frustrated by a lack in results. However, they may not be aware of what their body requires to make progress.
Somatotypes origin
William Herbert Sheldon was an American psychologist who, in the 1940s classified by three body types, namely endomorphs, mesomorphs, and ectomorphs. He classified the three body types according to his Constitutional Theory, which associated the somatotypes to distinct temperaments and personalities.
The benefits of each body type
Each body type offers its own benefits. You can also be a mix of different body types. This depends on many factors, such as genetics, nutrition, and training.
A body test can be a helpful tool to determine if your body type is a mix of different body types. Your results will be broken down into percentages. You could, for example, be 70% ectomorph, and 30% mesomorph.
Benefits of a mesomorphic body type
They may look better if they train a few days a week, even if most people with this type of body never set foot in a gym. It is possible to have a lot of muscle and little body fat without having to do much exercise or cardio. This is because their metabolism is also located in the middle.
When and if the mesomorph decides to start weight-training, they will usually experience the fastest development, compared to other body types.
Benefits of Endomorph body types
Endomorphs are able to gain and maintain more muscle mass, which is a major advantage over other body types. It would seem that the mesomorphs would be the winners in this category. However, the larger frames tend to naturally support more muscle tissue.
The best athletes in strength sports, such as powerlifters and strongmen, have endomorphic bodies with superior frames to the majority of the population. These athletes often carry a lot of body fat as well as muscle in higher weight categories. This is because body weight and performance are usually compared, especially at competitive levels.
The benefits of an ectomorph physique
Although maximum ectomorphs are not able, on average to build as much muscle mass or carry it as mesomorphs and endomorphs can, a well-mannered muscular development coupled with fewer joints and low bodyfat makes for an inspiring body type. This is the ideal bodybuilding physique.
The smaller the joints, the more muscular the illusion will appear. This is because the muscles taper down from the middle to the joints.
If someone has small wrists but decent biceps, for example, they might appear more attractive. Ectomorphs have a tendency to look slimmer and have less body weight. Leanness helps to make your muscles stand out as they are not covered by body fat. If you combine ectomorphic with mesomorphic characteristics, you can create a fashionable aesthetic!
Here are some examples of somatotypes that differ from each other.
Anaerobic performance
One study comparing the performance of mesomorphic versus ectomorphic body types showed that one or two factors of somatotype could predict about one-third power performance. Research also showed that people with higher mesomorphy scores performed better in terms of strength. The combination of mesomorphic, ectomorphic and other values was more accurate in predicting decreased body strength.
Other Considerations
Your body type is largely determined by your genetics. It is possible to discover things that you didn’t know about your somatotype. You could, for example, have both an endomorphic and genetic freak body type. You may not be aware of your own perspective because you have poor nutrition, don’t exercise, or never tried to push yourself physically.
Before deciding on your body type, you must consider factors such as diet, culture, sleep habits, training and lifestyle. This is a good example of the skinny fat type. The person is ectomorphic but has too much body weight for several reasons.
The body quiz can be a good place to start, but you’ll need to be dedicated and disciplined in order to achieve a body you are proud of.
